NDC’s presidential primary risks injunction

The November 7 presidential primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) risks being injuncted after aspirant George Boateng had forms he picked earlier taken from him without replacement.

Mr Boateng, a youth organizer of the party in the Oyarifa Branch, was at the party’s head office in Adabraka on Tuesday to replace his forms as agreed, he tells TV3, between him and the General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

Mr Asiedu Nketia had rubbished the forms picked by Mr Boateng, saying they are only drafts and did not have his seal.

He, therefore, announced the dismissal of officers present on Monday, August 31, when Mr Boateng, a freight forwarder, picked those forms.

But on Tuesday, Mr Boateng told journalists that he had a call from the General Secretary to leave the party’s office and come at a later time to be communicated for the original forms.

He threatened to secure a court injunction on the presidential primary if he does not hear from the party until nominations close on Thursday, September 10.

Leader of the ruling party John Dramani Mahama had his forms picked on his behalf last Thursday but was at the party’s headoffice on Monday, September 7 to submit the forms.

He was received by a number of the party’s executives including the National Chairman, Kofi Portuphy, and the General Secretary.

Mr Boateng says his injunction would also force the general secretary to accept his nomination.
