Raffia-Wine tapper remanded

The Half-Assini Magistrate’s Court in Western Region has remanded a 25 year-old Raffia-Wine Tapper from Ellenda near Tikobo Number One, to two weeks in prison custody for possessing drugs and ammunition without authority.

Alex Anlimah, whose plea was not taken, was charged on two counts of possessing narcotic drugs and possessing of fire arms or ammunitions without authority or valid documents.

The Court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Illiasu, ordered him to re-appear on September 14.

Prosecuting Police Sergeant Isaac Ebo Otoo, said at about 1000 hours on Tuesday August 29 2015, police and naval personnel proceeded to Ellenda Wharf on operational duties at Ellenda during the burial of a former Chief of the town, Nana Kyeku Anyimiah IV.

He said the moment the accused spotted the security men at the Wharf, he took to his heels but was chased and arrested by the security officers who upon a search conducted on him, found four wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and three live “BB” cartridges in his pocket.

Sergeant Otoo said the accused was accordingly sent to the Half-Assini Police Station where police investigation caution statement was taken from him and after investigations, he was charged with the offences and put before the court.
