Even criminals are pardoned, forgive me – Nyaunu to NDC

A former MP for Lower Manya Krobo, Michael Teye Nyaunu, is pleading with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to accept him into their fold, having made his intentions known to contest the parliamentary race on the party’s ticket.

Nyaunu decided to contest the last elections as an independent candidate after losing the primaries deepening a frosty relationship between him and the leadership of the party. After an unsuccessful flirtation with the breakaway National Democratic Party, Nyaunu believes the time has come to bury the hatchet and move on.

“One of the reasons for which I was considered a traitor was because I said the then President Mills was not fit to run for president and as if I was a prophet, all that has happened. Secondly, I did not join NDP and that is why I contested as an independent candidate. Yes, I have some association with them but not to the extent that I contested on their ticket,” ‘MTN’ told Accra-based Citi FM.

He added: “I can make that appeal through your medium and that should not be restricted to me alone but all those who left as NDC members and contested on independent tickets.

“I am not embarrassed in anyway; I formed part of the foundation of the NDC and if it is going wrong and you criticize it and you are compelled to go as an independent candidate; and now decides to contest on the party’s ticket again, where lies the embarrassment?”

“I have done nothing wrong that can be found in the country’s criminal code. Even criminals, are given presidential pardon. Therefore, when you have differences in a party and you move out and decide to come back, what is wrong with it? The party can decide to take me onboard or refuse me,” the former lawmaker said.

However, Nyaunu served notice he will not cease criticizing the NDC or the president.

“A man is always a man and feels more comfortable when he speaks his mind and I promise you that I will continue to speak my mind.”
