Dismiss judge who jailed Mahama’s gunman – Prof. Asare

A Ghanaian Lawyer and academic is pushing for the dismissal of the Judge who sentenced President Mahama’s failed assassin to ten years imprisonment.

Professor Steven Kwaku Asare wants the Judicial Council to remove Justice Obiri who he considers to have been reckless in the trial of Charles Antwi.

Antwi was arrested in President Mahama’s church wielding a weapon and later confessed to have gone there to kill the president.

His trial lasted minutes before he was jailed for ten years.

But the ruling of the Circuit Court was overturned on Monday by a Human Rights court.

Professor Steven Kwaku Asare in an interview with Starr News said the judicial council must sanction the circuit court judge.

“When you send someone to prison for ten years when the law clearly states that the maximum sentence for this offence is five years, that is not an error…it is reckless,” Professor Asare said.
