SSCE examinations begin

Accra, July 15, GNA – This year’s Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (SSCE) began on Tuesday with an estimated 81,084 candidates writing the papers throughout the country.

In the Greater Accra Region, 12,832 candidates are expected to write the examinations; Eastern has 12,108 registered candidates and Central Region has 10,699 candidates.

The Western Region has 5,445 candidates; Ashanti Region has 15,995; Brong Ahafo has 5,838; Volta Region has 7,933 Northern Region 5,758; Upper East 2,776 and Upper West 1,703.

At Accra High School, 393 candidates are writing the papers out of 396 who were registered.

According to Mr, Winfred Deku, Supervisor at the centre, no malpractice was reported on Tuesday.

“The paper was written in a good atmosphere with the candidates putting up good behaviour.”

He said the Centre had introduced a new sitting plan to prevent examination malpractices.

Mr Deku said under the new sitting arrangement enough space had been created to avoid cheating.

He said the West African Examinations Council provided education materials, which were used to prepare the candidates to avoid cheating. At the Accra Girls School, all 360 candidates who were registered reported for the papers.
