The Ghana Committed Drivers Association has threatened a nationwide strike from Monday over what they describe as harsh policies by the Driver and Vehicle Licenses Authority, (DVLA) and Insurance Companies.
According to the association, the recent policies of these organisations are inhumane and unacceptable.
The new policy by DVLA states that any person seeking to drive must first acquire education, at least at the JHS level, before qualifying for a driving test.
According to DVLA, the directive will help reduce the cases of unqualified drivers who endanger the lives of road users.
Speaking at a news Conference in Tema Tuesday, the Chairman of the Association, Charles Danso, said the insurance premium for third party persons on commercial vehicles have been increased by over 400 percent, describing it as unacceptable.
The commercial drivers also argue that the policy by the DVLA will render many uneducated people jobless.
The commercial drivers in April this year embarked on a similar sit down strike over the same issues.
