Nkwanta-Kese (Ash), July 14, GNA- Some 86 low-cost houses have been put up for the inhabitants of Nkwanta-Kese in the Afigya-Sekyere District of Ashanti under the Habitat for Humanity scheme, which started in September 2001.
The project, estimated at 800 million cedis, have been developed on a 75-hectare land released free of charge by the chief, Nana Owusu Afriyie.
Mr Paul Amankwah Annor, Chairman of the Nkwanta-Kese affiliate of the Habitat for Humanity, said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the weekend.
Under the scheme the Habitat for Humanity pre-finances construction of the houses and the beneficiaries pay for by instalments. Mr Annor said the land released to the Habitat for Humanity for development of the houses was exhausted and appealed to the chief for additional land for expansion of the project.
He said the Nkwanta-Kese affiliate of the Habitat for Humanity had secured land at Pampetia to build 200 houses.
Mr Annor said lack of electricity was hampering efforts at setting up small businesses at Nkwanta-Kese and appealed to the Ministry of Energy to assist.
