Police in the Upper East regional town of Bawku have threatened to shoot and kill any civilian who attempts to attack their personnel.
The threat follows this weekend’s riots where the Police clashed with irate youth over the arrest of a 70-year-old Imam.
He was picked up for detaining three kids he sends onto the streets to beg for alms.
His supporters stormed the police station, but the police fired warning shots to disperse them, injuring three people in the process.
The Bawku Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Kaletsi Tefutor in an interview with Starr News said they will resist any attempt on the lives of their personnel henceforth.
“The Police and military are in control of the town, as I stand here at the Police station, I have hundred of my men around me…let me assure you, as Policeman, we will not wait for them to kill any of our men, if they touch any of our policemen, we will go to town and kill all of them, I assure you”.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Police COP John Kudalor said the service is revising its operation to deal with the growing attacks on its personnel.
