PTA builds toilet facility for Freeman ‘B’ school

Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) of the Freeman Methodist Primary ‘B’ in Kwesimintsim, a suburb of Takoradi, in the Western region, have renovated a state-of- the-art toilet facility to serve both pupils and teachers in the school.

The facility, which had broken down for a decade, was renovated by members of the PTA in collaboration with the Freeman Methodist Church, Assembly members, and the chief and elders of the Kwesimintsim community.

The facility consists of a female unit and a male unit with three (3) water closets and two (2) urinals for each unit.

At a brief handing over ceremony, Headmistress of the school, Madam Jemima Ekua Honny, said the absence of the facility was hampering teaching and learning in the school.

She disclosed that pupils had to cross the highway and walk to far places to attend to nature’s call.

She said the situation contributed to truancy since some of the pupils went to their homes to ease themselves but failed to return to school afterwards.

The headmistress of the school was convinced the project will help address that challenge.

She commended the leaders for their effort and called on them to continue rendering support to the school to improve teaching and learning.

Madam Jemima called for the provision of water storage barrels to store water and promised to put the facility to good use to serve its purpose.

Rev. Sampson Acquah of the Freeman Methodist Church in his speech called on parents to provide the basic needs of their children to facilitate their studies for academic excellence.

He said parents should monitor and supervise the academic work of their children to see whether they are doing well or not so as to assist them.

They should also supervise and help them to do their home works, he added.
