2 Navy Officers Escape Death

Two young navy officers narrowly escaped death Sunday dawn.

This was when the car in which the two, who have been identified as Lieutenant Nii Teiko Tagoe and David Thompson, was crushed by a cesspit tanker vehicle at the Korle Bu traffic light.

Police sources said the two, who were in a Daewoo Tacuma car with registration number GM 2785-14, were driving from the Pasico traffic light headed for Mamprobi when the cesspit tanker, with registration number GS 7348-14, from the Ring Road West extension road heading for the Korle Bu mortuary road, ran into the car around 3:25am.

The car was mangled beyond recognition.

Fortunately, none of the two officers who were on board the Daewoo Tacuma Saloon car died, even though they sustained injuries.

One sustained injuries on the elbow and head whilst the other had a cut around his ribs.

They were then rushed to the accident centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) where they were treated and referred to the 37 Military Hospital.

One of them was scheduled to be the best man for a colleague who was having a wedding ceremony that very morning but that was not meant to be since he could not make it.

Driver of the cesspit tanker, one Joseph Nartey, had to be arrested and detained but was later granted bail.

News of the accident and how the two survived miraculously spread like wildfire and has become talk of the area.

People have since been trooping the Korle Bu police station to catch a glimpse of the mangled car.
