Contractor remanded for defilement

A 35 year old building Contractor, Humble Asare-Sakyi Kwabena has been arraigned for defiling a 10 year- old girl at Teshie, a suburb in Accra.

Kwabena has denied the offence.

The court presided over by Ms Patricia Quansah remanded him into Police custody to reappear on August 27.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire told the court that the complainant was the victim’s mother. The complainant, victim and the accused person live within the same vicinity in Teshie.

On July 29, at about 3:00pm, the victim went to school and when returning, she saw the accused person sitting on a wall.

Chief Inspector Atimbire said Kwabena called the victim and gave her GH? 10.00 to buy him sachet water and bread.

The victim went bought the items for Kwabena, who directed her to send them to an uncompleted story building.

Kwabena, who had laid a bed sheet in one of the rooms, followed up, held the victim’s mouth and had sexual intercourse with her.

After the act, prosecution said Kwabena warned the victims not tell anyone or else she would die.

Chief Inspector Atimbire said the victim went home and out of fear kept the ordeal to herself until the complainant detected changes in the way she walked.

Complainant therefore interrogated the victim and she mentioned Kwabena as the one who defiled her.

Prosecution said the complainant proceeded to where the crime took place and met a group of young men there but the victim could not identify him because he was not among them.

On August 7, this year at about 5:30 am, the complainant and her two sons as well as the victim went to the uncompleted building and convinced the accused person to accompany them to the Police Station.

Prosecution said the victim’s mother lodged the complaint and a medical form was issued to the victim to attend hospital for treatment. When the victim’s brought the medical report, accused was charged.
