See election as gateway to democracy – Aspirant

Mr Isaac Awuku Asare, an aspiring assembly member for the Ahenbronmu Electoral Area in the Suhum Municipality, has deplored the apathetic attitude of the electorate towards the district assembly elections.

“We must see elections as the gateway to democracy, because elections have come to stay with us”.

Mr Isaac Awuku Asare, who is the Administrator of the Association of Garages, was speaking to journalists shortly after a mammoth rally organized to run off his campaign at Suhum.

He expressed concern that some people may choose not to vote in the upcoming district assembly elections and urged them to participate in it.

Mr Asare said if some people decide not to vote, others would vote and impose a non-performing candidate on them.

He urged the electorate to attach the same importance to the district assembly elections, as they do to the parliamentary and presidential elections.

Mr Asare said, to make the decentralization policy work effectively, the electorate must elect knowledgeable people to the district assemblies to plan for the development of the area.

“I have been a mouthpiece for the Ahenbronmu Electoral Area, and that, I know their grievances and concerns, so I believe I have the ability to discuss their issues at the assembly”, he said.

“As I lace my boots for the district assembly elections, I am mindful of creating an enabling and congenial atmosphere devoid of any petty squabbles”, he said.

Mr Asare accused some assembly members of not doing enough to send social amenities to their electoral areas and urged the citizenry to vote massively in the district assembly elections to elect people who can help them solve their problems.

He advised other aspirants to conduct clean campaigns devoid of political influence, because the concept did not allow partisanship.

Mr Asare has to his credit, a book entitled: “First Aid in Tenancy”, which educates landlords and tenants on how to live amicably.
