Court orders two to be held in prison custody

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Circuit Court has ordered two men accused of robbing a student of his two android mobile phones valued at GH?4,000 to be held in prison custody.

Kofi Yomi, alias “Bobi”, and Agyemang Kyei, together with two others on the run, reportedly attacked the victim at knifepoint at Bantama.

They are facing charges of conspiracy and robbery but their pleas were not taken.

They would make their next appearance on Tuesday, August 18.

Police Chief Inspector Felix Akowuah told the court, presided over by Mr. Samuel Ansah, that the crime was committed on July 26, at about 2330 hours.

The victim, Shadrack Frimpong, had just come down from a taxi and decided to look for a place to urinate, when the four struck, the prosecution said.

They drew a knife and asked that he surrendered the phones which he did for fear of his life, he said.

The prosecution said before the robbers could escape, Frimpong raised the alarm to attract the attention of passersby, who chased and caught up with Kyei and arrested him.

He readily offered to take them to the house of his accomplices to recover the stolen phones and led them to Abrepo-Junction, where he identified Yomi, but the others slipped through.

The pair were, subsequently, handed over to the Police and in their caution statement confessed to the robbery.
