Adolescents are boycotting the Agodome Community Health Planning Services CHPS zone because of its location on a family compound.
The adolescents, mainly girls between the ages of 15 and 18, preferred to call on the staff of the CHPS compound in their homes for reproductive health services, where privacy is assured.
Ms Vivian King, who is in charge of the zone, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the presence of tenants in the same building did not seem to suit the girls.
She was interacting with the GNA at the handing over of a CHPS compound built by Plan International-Ghana at Larve, a neighbouring community in the South Tongu district.
She said the girls usually requested for depo-provera and norigynon injections to prevent pregnancy.
Ms King said the Agodome CHPS compound lacked urinals, beds and other facilities necessary for quality healthcare delivery.
She said for instance, women had to go to nearby bushes to take samples of their urine for pregnancy test, a situation, which she described as “inhumane”.
Ms King also said medicines are packed on benches due to lack of desks and shelves and appealed for support to relocate the zone with the necessary facilities.
