Six Infantry Battalion organises medical outreach programme

The Six Infantry Battalion in collaboration with the 6 Infantry Battalion Wives Association on Friday organised a medical outreach programme for the residents of Zagyuri and a blood donation exercise for the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The activities formed part of activities marking a three-day programme by the Six Infantry Battalion of Ghana Armed Forces on the theme “Women of Substance for Development”.

The programme was aimed at appreciating the wives of the personnel of the Six Infantry Battalion for the roles they play in maintaining their homes.

Lieutenant Colonel William Kwabiah, Commanding Officer of the Battalion, said the outreach programme and the blood donation exercise were the battalion’s own way of giving back to society and helping to save lives.

He encouraged the public to patronise such programmes when the need arises and expressed gratitude to the residents of Zagyuri for embracing the exercise.

He said the initiative would be held in other communities.

Dr Mark Martin Abilba, Senior Medical Officer, Six Garrison said most of the cases that are recorded comprise malaria, chest infections, hypertension and diabetes.

He advised the public to visit the hospital regularly and urged the government and non-governmental organisations to organise more public health education and screening exercises.

Madam Jemimah Okwan- Leoheart, Charlie Company Magadzia of the Barracks Women Association said she was impressed with the turnout and expressed the hope that the exercise would be of great help to the residents.
