Fake soldier fined for defrauding two drivers

A 32-year-old driver who impersonated as a soldier and succeeded in collecting GH? 24,400 from two drivers is in the firm grips of the law.

Gabriel Owusu pleaded guilty to impersonation and defrauding by false pretence, when he appeared before the Akim Swedru Circuit Court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Plange Brew.

Failure to pay the fine Owusu would serve 63 months jail term in hard labour.

The convict succeeded in collecting GH? 21,400 from William Owusu Aboagye and GHc3, 000 from Mr William Owusu Aboagye and GH? 3000 from Johnson Baafi.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Kingsley Kwaku Antwi said Mr Aboagye and Mr Baafi; the complainants live at Akim Oda.

He said the convict introduced himself to Mr Aboagye and Mr Baafi as a soldier stationed at Achiase Jungle Warfare School and would go on peace keeping mission abroad.

The prosecutor said Owusu later went to stay with Mr Aboagye at Akim Oda to pursue his purported military course and demanded GH? 21,400 from Mr Aboagye) to secure recruitment for his daughter and bolted.

Owusu later went to Mr Baafi to also defraud him of GH? 3,000. Mr Aboagye reported the matter to the Police on July 25, and the convict was arrested at his hideout.
