Awuni advises interns to gain practical experience

Mr John Awuni, Corporate Affairs Director of Finatrade Group of Companies, has called on tertiary students to complement their theoretical knowledge with practicals.

He said the blend of theory and practicals are necessary for them to gain balanced knowledge to perform creditably well in their fields of endeavour.

Mr Awuni said this when students under the Finatrade Foundation scholarship programme successfully completed a six-week internship with the Finatrade Group of companies and the Foundation’s Model Farm at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The internship forms part of the Company’s effort to provide practical training for the brilliant students so as to complement what they learn in the classroom and to ensure that they familiarised themselves with the activities of the Company.

The students were involved in industrial training with some of the companies under the Group including; Continental Commodities Trading Company, Market Direct Limited, Sucatrade and Freight Links Logistics.

Beneficiary students at the KNUST and University of Cape Coast (UCC) also did theirs at the Foundation’s Model farm in Kumasi.

Mr Awuni who is also the Executive Secretary of the Foundation commended the students for their comportment during their stay with the Group.

“We hope your stay here has been fulfilling, although short. I must commend you for your discipline and attitude towards work.’’

He also encouraged the scholars to concentrate on their studies as they returned to school.

“As you return to your various schools to begin a new academic year, I will like to admonish you to even take your studies more seriously, take cognisance of your lapses and work towards improvement to make our support for you worthwhile’’

Miss Alberta Nyamekye, one of the beneficiaries and a student of UCC expressed appreciation on behalf of her colleagues, adding: ‘We are grateful for this opportunity to acquire the necessary skills needed for the job market.’’
