Awulae Attibrukusu supports needy students

Awulae Attibrukusu III, the Paramount Chief of Lower Axim , has founded a foundation to support the educational needs of brilliant but needy students in the Western Region.

It would also partner the government to harness vital resources in the country in order to offer employable skills training and entrepreneurship to the youth, as well as support activities that promote environmental sustainability.

The foundation was officially launched by Dr George Sipa Adjah Yankey, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana National Gas Company, at a ceremony in Takoradi, over the weekend.

Dr Yankey lauded the initiative of the paramount chief and challenged other chiefs in the region to emulate Awulae Attibrukusu, in order to accelerate the development of the region.

He noted that government alone cannot shoulder all the needs of the people and urged all well-meaning Ghanaians to support the efforts of the executive.

He said the region lags behind in physical infrastructure although it is the food basket of the country contributing more than 50 per cent of the national Gross Domestic Product.

Awulae Attibrukusu, who is also the Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, said he has supported six students to further their education to the tertiary level, adding that the foundation aims at mobilising resources to support more youth to achieve their aspirations in life.

Some individuals and corporate entities contributed various sums of money towards the foundation.

They include Kosmos Energy, Tullow Ghana Limited, Sankofa Gold Limited, Member of Parliament for Takoradi, Mr Okyere Darko-Mensah, Mr Alfred Ekow Gyan, Deputy Western Regional Minister and Dr Sipa Yankey among others.
