A good number of students of Mawuli Junior High School (JHS) in Ho carry tables and chairs to school regularly.
This is due to the lack of furniture for students and teachers, Mrs Nancy Ocloo, a headmistress of the School complex said on Thursday.
Mrs Ocloo, who was giving a status report on Mawuli Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P.) Basic School Complex at the commissioning of an Information Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory for the school complex, built by the School’s Parent Teachers Association (PTA), said the JHS had only 50 mono desks donated by the Municipal Assembly for the 315 students last academic year.
She therefore appealed for support from government and other stakeholders in education.
Mrs Ocloo lamented that the Basic School Complex, since its establishment in 1979, had no GETFund or government project and commended the PTA for its support over the years.
She said the school was in dire need of an additional ICT laboratory, a kindergarten and decent toilet facilities for the about 1,200 pupils and students.
Mrs Ocloo said though the School complex had hundreds of reading materials, it lacked a library facility where the pupils and students could make good use of the books.
Mr Foster Agotse, Volta Regional Manager of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) Schools said Mawuli Basic School was the only school in his Unit with no single GETFund project and commended the School’s PTA for building all classroom blocks, offices and toilet facilities in the School and the GHC 40,500.00 ICT laboratory.
“This is complete community participation and I’m full of admiration for your PTA,” he stated.
Mrs Fafa Adinyira, Ho Municial Chief Executive expressed surprise that the school had no GETFund project and tasked the authorities of the school to make fresh requests for some projects to accommodate the increasing enrolment in the school.
She also commended the PTA for “storming the odds” for 36 years and keeping the school among the top performers in the Municipality.
Mrs Adinyira said ICT was now indispensable in curricular development and implementation and advised both teachers and students to put the facility to good use.
Nana Frititi II, PTA Chairman of the School complex, said the vision for the School was to restore its academic glory and be the best basic public school in the Volta Region.
