Rawlings Unhappy With Media Reports

The former President, Flt Lt J.J. Rawlings, has said there is a deliberate attempt in some sections of the media to tarnish his image because of his stance on truth.

He emphasised that no amount of lies and falsehood will deter him from speaking his mind on national issues of importance.

He further accused the government of telling massive lies to Ghanaians and said come 2004, “the people of this region should join others to vote out Kufuor and his collaborators.”

Former President Rawlings was speaking at a well-attended rally in Wa in the Upper West Region last Sunday.

The NDC founder alleged that a number of personalities who cannot collaborate with the government to tell lies have resigned.

He said the NDC will continue to offer constructive criticism in order to ensure the development process of the country.

Ex-President Rawlings called on the people to continue to remain steadfast and committed to the party since it will win power in 2004.

He commended the people of the region for the warm reception accorded him. The General Secretary of the NDC, Dr Josiah Aryeh, commended the people for their impressive turn-out. He said Ghana is wallowing in corruption and that for two and half years, “we have voted for a government that knows nothing but ethnicity”.

He said the NDC is going through rejuvenation and, therefore, urged the people not to be misled to join other parties.

On his part, a former Defence Minister in the NDC administration, Alhaji Iddrisu Mahama, expressed regret that during the recent celebration of the 20th anniversary of the region, the organisers intentionally failed to recognise the role of former President Rawlings.

He said the region was created out of the then Upper Region through PNDC Law 41 on January 14, 1983. He castigated those who, for their own selfish interest, want to hide the truth from the people of the region.

Other speakers at the rally included the Minority Leader and MP for Nadowli North, Mr Alban Bagbin, the MP for Lawra, Dr Ben Kumbuor, and a host of former ministers of state.
