UEW to honour Kufuor and three others

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), will next month at its special congregation, honour four illustrious and well deserved personalities, for their contributions towards the growth of the University.

They are former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Professor Michael Shattock of the United Kingdom, the immediate past chairman of the Council of UEW whose name was not mentioned, and Mr Gibrine Adam.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw made this known at the matriculation of 947 fresh students, to undertake various sandwich post-graduate courses at the Winneba campus.

He said 345 representing 40 percent of the admitted students were females, with 60 percent males.

The VC said at the close of registration for the sandwich programme, a total of 868 undergraduate students had registered for their respective courses.

Prof Asabere-Ameyaw said the University tried to make room for as many qualified persons as possible, to pursue their dreams of university Education, adding that one such avenue was the sandwich programme.

He said the UEW stood out among all the Universities in Ghana as the only University fully dedicated to teacher Education.

The VC encouraged the fresh students to stay on their programmes, study diligently and complete successfully and on schedule, to justify the time and money invested in them by their parents and guardians.

“Your success should be a motivating factor to other teachers who are yet to decide on enrolling in the programme”.

He appealed to them to avoid cheating during examinations, or do someone’s academic exercises on his/her behalf, or copy a colleague’s assignment.

Prof Asabere-Ameyaw said the goal of the Distance Education Programme of the UEW was not to help them acquire certificates for enhanced salaries, but to change their total outlook.
