Group condemns attack by naval personnel

The Concerned Youth of Tema Newtown, a development oriented organization, has called on the Naval High Command to investigate twelve naval officers who stripped and assaulted some residents of Tema Newtown on 20th July this year.

According to a statement signed and issued by Mr Stephen Ashitey Adjei, Secretary, eight people sustained various degrees of injuries in the unprovoked attack.

The statement said “On July 20, 2015, there was a beach jamboree at the Paradise beach, where about 12 naval personnel stormed the beach, stripped civilians naked and assaulted them with weapons for no offence.”

The group condemned the act as an “eyesore” adding that,” Military personnel throughout the country are educated, very discipline and respected by the people so such bad nuts should not be allowed to destroy their enviable reputation.”

According to the statement, “the people are filled with anger and frustration and called for immediate measures to assure them that such a thing would not happen to them again.”

Meanwhile, the Tema Newtown Police is investigating the matter.
