Manson Jailed 7 years for defilement

A manson at Abrem Agona in the Central Region, who was caught defiling his neighbours’ 13-year-old daughter was on Tuesday sentenced to seven years imprisonment in hard labour by a Cape Coast Circuit Court.

The convict, John Benson, 25, pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement but was found guilty by the court, presided over by Mr Kofi Seshie Ametewee, after the trial.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Christina Sampong, told the court that on Thursday December 11, 2014 at about 2200hrs, the victim’s parents returned home from work, but could not locate their daughter.

She said the victim’s parent started searching for her in the vicinity and suspecting the convict, they forced their way into his room at about 2230hrs and saw him having sexual intercourse with their daughter.

Chief Inspector Sampong said the victim told her parents that Benson came to their house and sent her to buy banku for him and he dragged her into his room and forcibly had sex with her.

Benson was handed over to the Abrem Agona police but the case was referred to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Cape Coast where a medical form was issued for the victim to be sent to hospital, which indicated that the victim had been defiled.
