Freddy Blay exposed; he was not shot – Police

The Police in Upper East have called into question claims by First National Vice Chairman of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, Freddy Blay, that he was attacked during Tuesday’s by-elections in Talensi.

Blay Tuesday claimed he had been attacked by machete-wielding members of the dreaded pro-government vigilante group Azorka Boys, and had subsequently sought medical help at the Regional Hospital.

The Police have since shot down the claims, insisting Blay and the other high ranking members of the NPP’s claims of being attack were pure conjecture.

Blay, the Police say, rather accompanied two of his colleagues; National Treasurer Kwabena Abankwah and his aide Henry Akufo Gyan to the hospital after they were attacked.

Tuesday’s by-elections saw instances where the Police were left helpless, allowing the NDC and NPP inspired groups Azorka Boys and Bolga Bulldogs to go at each other. In most cases locals say, the Police watched on while machetes and other sharp objects were thrown about.

Both parties have since accepted the results of the elections.
