Ghana’s Most Beautiful winner begins project

Ms Abigail Baciara Bentie, Ghana’s Most Beautiful 2014, has begun the first phase of her project, targeted at promoting basic education, at the Omega School in Kasoa.

The project is aimed at enhancing the reading capabilities of students, encouraging the girl- child to embrace mathematics, using volunteers to render free teaching services and rehabilitating some school buildings, and promoting the importance of regular hand washing among school children.

Ms Bentie said the project began with volunteers, who rendered free teaching service to the Omega School, ending with a donation of branded school materials to students.

She said the project was initiated by her foundation dubbed: “Malol- lol Foundation’, which is a Sisala word from the Upper West Region that means ‘Thank You Ghana’.

Ms Bentie said “it is important for one to make an impact wherever one finds oneself and give back to society at all times”.

She said her foundation believes that education is the critical element for improving the well-being of the country’s growing population, saying it is equally important to ensure that the school environment is a conducive place for teaching and learning.

Ms Bentie said similar projects would be organised across the 10 regions, adding that she would soon travel to Northern Region, where she would be donating solar panels to the Tuluwe community and then proceed to Somanya, in the Greater Accra Region.

Mrs Erica Akweley Lawson, Director, School Regulations Omega School, said it was an honour and privilege for her school to be chosen as the first to benefit from the project.

She said she is grateful to the foundation for the honour, adding that promoting basic education is a powerful weapon for the development of the country.

Mrs Lawson called on other corporate bodies and other foundations to emulate the efforts of the Malol-lol foundation to help support and promote basic education in the country.
