Railway Corporation Complains About Theft Of Rail Line Bolts

Takoradi, (Western Region) 16 Oct The Ghana Railway Corporation said yesterday that about 300 feet on the Central Rail Line has been rendered impassable because bolts and nuts on the track have been stolen. A statement issued by the Public Relations Division of the corporation in Takoradi said about 60 bolts and nuts between Nyinase and Twifo Praso on the central line, were recently removed by thieves. It said the removal of the bolts and nuts has made it dangerous for the corporation to run trains on the line. It said but for the vigilance of the track workers, lives and property worth several millions of cedis would have been lost. According to the statement, the stolen bolts and nuts are often sold to spare parts dealers at Kumasi Suame Magazine, Kokompe in Accra and at other such places. The corporation appealed to dealers in spare parts not to accept such items when they are brought to them for sale. They should report anyone who offers such items for sale, to the nearest police station or security agency.
