About one thousand, eight hundred and seventeen candidates would be re-writing the cancelled papers of this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) in the Bawku Municipality.
In the Binduri District, a total of nine hundred and fifty-six candidates will be re-writing the papers, while as many as one thousand, one hundred and eighty-seven will re-sit for the papers in the Pusiga District.
In the Bawku Municipality, 965 boys and 852 girls would be writing, 512 boys and 444 girls would write in the Binduri District while 646 boys and 541 girls would take part in the Pusiga district.
Mr Saeed Adam, Examination Officer for the Bawku area who released the figures on Tuesday in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), noted that extra measures had been put in place to ensure that there would be no leakage the second time, so as not to disappoint the students.
He said examination leakages had become a canker, and that there was the need for stakeholders to ensure that it was wiped out of the system so that young students did not grow up to become dishonest.
He explained that if leakages became part of examinations in the country, the international community would begin to question the authenticity certificates of Ghanaian students, and that would go a long way to affect the economy.
Madam Janet Kawiah, the Bawku Municipal Director of Education, urged the candidates to depend on themselves, instead of looking up to people who may mislead them.
She cautioned the candidates against malpractices, because it would land them into trouble and ruin their future.
Madam Kawiah commended the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the Guidance and Counseling Unit in the area for their commitment towards the development of the Girl-Child education as the girl-child school drop-out rate had reduced and many girls were taking part in the examinations.
