GRNA sympathises with flood victims

The Ghana Registered Nurses Association (GRNA) has expressed its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the June 3 flood with disaster in Accra.

A statement signed by Mr Kwaku Asante-Krobea and Mrs Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, the President and General Secretary, respectively, said: “The GRNA is saddened by the devastating disaster and wishes to express particular condolences to the bereaved families of the two Nurses from Ridge Hospital, Emefa Agbematu, a Rotation Midwife, and Harriet Bamfo, a Staff Nurse, as well as a third Nurse whose name and facility has not been confirmed lives.

“We also extend our condolences to our colleagues and the management of Ridge Hospital where the nurses worked.”

The GRNA said it was working together with the Hospital’s management and the families of the deceased persons to give their departed colleagues a befitting burial.

The GRNA entreated the public to avoid dumping waste into drains across the country.

The GRNA also entreated the Government to ensure that Accra was provided with proper drainage systems to forestall the perennial flooding.

“We expect that Government would take steps to ensure that citing of fuel stations in densely populated areas are avoided and all safety measures put in place,” the statement said.

The GRNA commended the security services and all other volunteers who made efforts to rescue the victims from the disaster.

More than 150 people died in the floods and the fire disaster in Accra on that fateful day.
