Protect confidentiality of examination papers – WAEC told

Dr Nuhu Adams, Awutu-Senya East Municipal Chief Executive, has appealed to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to put in place appropriate mechanisms to protect the security and confidentiality of examination papers.

He said such a mechanism is necessary to help prevent the frequent cancellation of examination papers over the years.

Dr Adams made the appeal in an interview with Ghana News Agency after the recent cancellation of some leaked papers of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

He said: “It is unfortunate that the cancellation has occurred again and we need to learn a lesson from it as our children have been unduly punished because those in authority did not handle the examination papers as expected.”

Dr Adams said investigations should be conducted into the leakage of the examination questions and all those involved punished to deter others from repeating such acts.

A total of 5,938 students from 151 private and 20 public schools in the municipally registered, to write the 2015 BECE, Dr Adams said, adding that his visit together with Madam Rita Arkon, Municipal Director of Education last week to the 13 centres showed that the moral of the students were very high.

The MCE advised the students not to be disturbed by the cancellation, but should be firm in the Lord Almighty and continue to revise their notes till new dates are fixed for re-writing.
