Ghana Schools Project empathises with BECE candidates

The Ghana Schools Project, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has expressed its empathy with candidates of this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE), following the cancellation of five papers.

Mr Anthony Kwaku Amoah, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the organization, told the Ghana News Agency in Accra that even though the development was harsh and painful, pupils should organize quickly for the re-sit of the affected papers.

Mr Amoah, also a teacher and counsellor, encouraged pupils to study hard and avoid the temptation of resorting to unorthodox means of passing their examinations.

He said: “Success is obvious when one works hard and obeys the rules governing examinations.”

He also advised officials of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), teachers, parents and other stakeholders, against attempts to lure pupils to indulge in examination malpractices, indicating, “what the kids need from us is good counsel and support, for them to succeed genuinely, and not buy the papers for them.”

On June 17, WAEC cancelled five papers, namely, including English Language Two, Mathematics Two, Integrated Science Two, Religious and Moral Education Two, and Social Studies One and Two of this year’s BECE, over claims of massive leakage via social media and WhatsApp.

The candidates will re-write the affected papers on Monday, June 29 and Tuesday, June 30.
