A non-governmental organisation (NGO) Actionaid-Ghana, has donated relief items to the June 3 disaster victims.
The gesture was to support those who were affected by the twin disaster-flood and Goil filling station explosion that hit the Accra metropolis recently.
The items which were distributed to residents of Manhean and Borkobokor, all suburbs of Accra, included cooking oil, rice, water, pillow, mattress, blankets, toiletries and buckets.
Receiving the items on behalf of the affected victims, the Ga West Coordinator of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Commey Tetteh, thanked the board and executives of Actionaid-Ghana for showing love to the victims of the disaster.
Mr. Tetteh advised the people of Ga West whose houses are on the waterways to relocate before any disaster strikes again.
“There will be series of education which NADMO is going to do. We will ensure that all buildings put up on waterways are removed to avoid any future disaster,” he affirmed.
He added that although there were series of construction of drainage in the areas, the people living in those communities must be disciplined and refrain from throwing refuse into gutters.
In an interview with Today, the Project Manager of Actionaid-Ghana, Henrietta Lamptey, said her outfit was touched by the plight of the victims hence the donation to lessen their burden.
According to her, “we have donated the same assorted items to municipalities including Ga East, Ga West, Ga North and Ga South.”
Some of the beneficiaries thanked Actionaid-Ghana for the donation.
For instance, Francisca Amo, a beneficiary, was pleased with the items.
