Amasaman youth go wild

Residents in Amasaman in the Ga West District are gearing up to protest against authorities over the lack of a footbridge across the road at the bus stop crossing the area, and the subsequent loss of lives over the years as a result.

According to them, many proposals and petitions to the authorities have fallen on death ears and as a result, many innocent bloods had already been shed at that stretch.

“Their refusal had led to many deaths over the past few years and we the youth will not sit back unconcerned any longer,” the angry youth declared.

The move by the youth was triggered by the recent killing of a popular truck pusher at Amasaman bus stop.

31-year-old, David Quarshie, died last Saturday when a trailer loaded with cement run over him at the dreaded spot.

Today has learnt that about seven (7) pedestrians lost their lives in the last two months on the same stretch with many sustaining various degrees of injures in different accidents.

Last month a lady said to be in her late twenties with one child selling sachet (Pure) water was knocked down by a tipper diver at the Stadium Junction in the same community.

As a result, the said lady lost both legs and is still on admission in one of the hospitals receiving medical care.

According to the residents, many people had been knocked down or killed by speeding vehicles despite the speed ramps closer to the bus stop.

Therefore constructing a foot bridge was a necessity, they indiacted.

The Amasaman road is a busy road that links traveller’s traveling from Accra to so many regions like Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Eastern, part of Western and the three northern regions as well as Burkina Faso and Mali.
