The African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Zion Church has called for an attitudinal change among Ghanaians that would embrace responsible lifestyle and good citizenship in the aftermath of the recent flood and fire disasters that killed about 200 people and destroyed properties worth millions of Cedis.
A statement signed by Reverend Dr Hilliard .K. Dela Dogbe, the Chief of Staff and Protocol of the Church, said that would require Ghanaians to rethink their attitude towards environmental cleanliness and respect for laws, especially, local bye-laws.
It added: “In the midst of our grief, we wish to encourage all our political leaders and citizenry of our nation to be circumspect in our utterances on the account of the disaster.”
The statement was issued on behalf of the Church’s Board of Bishops and Dr Seth .O. Lartey, Presiding Bishop of the Western West Africa Episcopal Area, comprising the churches in Ghana, Liberia, Togo and Cote d’Ivoire.
It finally extended its deepest condolences to all those who lost their loved ones and possessions during the fire and flood disasters, which occurred on June 3, 2015.
