Pute District Assembly JHS needs assistance

The Pute District Assembly Junior High School (JHS) at Ada, is in dire need of assistance to rehabilitate its school building affected by torrential rains.

The school’s roofing and a large proportion of the school was destroyed during a heavy downpour last week.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, John Ahortu, together with other officials at the Assembly, visited the school to ascertain the extent of damage and provide measures to save the school.

Speaking in an interview with journalists during the visit, Mr. Ahortu said the disaster would have negative impact on the students writing the on-going BECE exams.

“This is a serious issue that needs urgent attention as the students would suffer if the situation is not handled with immediate effect,” he stated.

The Assembly, he said, had brought contractors to the site to provide estimates on the cost of rehabilitating the old structure.

“Resources should be made available in two weeks for work to begin in the area to ensure studies resume at the school,” he stated.

He also called on Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO)s to come to the aid of Ada and victims of the flood disaster.

Headmaster of the school, David Ocansey said“It would be appropriate for the Assembly to react quickly to the situation as it is left with only a class that could accommodate the entire JHS students,”he stated.

The DCE was accompanied by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) coordinator, Madam Ata Akorli and District Coordinating Director, Torgbe Gershon Gadzekpo.
