French Ambassador inaugurates poultry training centre

Mr Jean-Michel Berrit, French Ambassador in Ghana, on Monday inaugurated a Poultry Training Centre, an initiative of the Hackman Foundation, at Effiduase, near Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

The Centre would train junior secondary school graduates from the New Juaben Municipality and nearby communities in commercial poultry production and assist them after completion to establish their own farms.

A statement issued by the French Embassy noted that 39,580 Euros (over 390 million cedis) was contributed by the Embassy from the French Co-operation Social Fund for Development, which represents 70 per cent of the total cost of the project. The remaining 30 per cent was provided by the Foundation.

The Social Fund for Development is a special budget of the French Co-operation created to give financial assistance to community-based development projects undertaken by Ghanaian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in deprived areas.

The statement said the Fund was released in line with the Ghana Poverty Reduction Strategy, which targets vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, who have organized themselves to implement basic social services programmes with income generating motives.

The statement added that the Embassy had targeted among its beneficiaries sections of the society with the greatest need to be helped, especially the youth, disabled and women.
