NPP parliamentary aspirant issues dud cheques

Francis Wilmot Bonzah, an administrator, is standing trial at an Accra Circuit Court for issuing three dud cheques covering a total amount of 89,600 Ghana Cedis.

Bonzah, who is also an aspiring candidate for the upcoming NPP parliamentary primaries in the Ellembele Constituency of the Western Region, issued the cheques to Tiger Force Microfinance Limited at Osu, to cover the amount, but they were all dishonoured by the respective banks.

The Accra Circuit Court hearing the case, has therefore admitted Bonzah to bail in the sum of 80,000 Ghana Cedis, with three sureties to be justified, after pleading guilty to a charge of issuing dud cheques.

The accused person issued three cheques dated January 13, February 14, and March 21, for the re-payment of a 60,000 Ghana-Cedi loan he took from Tiger Force Microfinance Limited sometime in November 2013.

When the cheques matured and the manager of the financial institution presented them to the banks, they were dishonoured.

Consequently, the manager reported the matter to the Police, and Bonzah was arrested.

He was granted a police enquiry bail to negotiate with Tiger Force Microfinance for re-payment, but Bonzah jumped bail.

The Police issued a bond on Bonzah’s sureties, and they produced him.

He was then charged with defrauding the company and arraigned before the court.
