Nationwide Muslim prayers to be offered for flood victims

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Shaributu, has directed all regional imams to observe prayer sessions on Friday, June 5 for bereaved families of Wednesday’s flood-cum-fire disaster in Accra.

He has also declared three days of national mourning beginning Friday.

“His Eminence commiserates with the families of the deceased and victims affected,” a statement issued on Thursday, June 4 by Alhaji Khuzaima Osman, the Personal Assistant of the Chief Imam, noted.

“He urges and appeals to everyone to help, in anyway one can, those affected.”

Sheikh Dr Shaributu also called on government to put in place measures to prevent disasters of such kind.

He has also implored government to resource the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to offer satisfactory help for the surviving victims.

The flood disaster was worsened by an explosion at a Goil Filling Station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, leaving hundreds dead.

Government has announced a GHC50 million support for rescue and relief operations.
