WR hosts National Sanitation Day

The Western Regional Coordinating Council will host the forthcoming National Sanitation Day (NSD) exercise, which would take place on Saturday June 6, 2015.

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) Alhaji Collins Dauda who disclosed this has therefore admonished media practitioners in the region to sensitize the general public to embrace the campaign.

The National Sanitation Day exercise takes place on the first Saturday of every month under the auspices of the Local Government Ministry to rid the country off filth and insanitary conditions.

The chiefs and people of the region would be joined by officials from the Ministry and the Regional Coordinating Council to undertake the exercise.

Addressing a press conference in Sekondi to officially launch the exercise, Collins Dauda was of the view that the National Sanitation Day, has come to stay given the tremendous support it had received from well-meaning Ghanaians and other corporate institutions in the country.

He explained that the NSD concept was not politically inclined stressing that all interested groupings must come together to make the campaign a success.

He revealed that his ministry had, for a week, been running activities at some designated locations in the region to ensure that adequate time and resources were available to aggressively tackle the filth.

The Minister hinted that about 10,000 waste bins, 50 each of wheel barrows, rakes and shovels as well as over 100 wellington boots and 50 cutlasses would be distributed to residents in the region for the exercise.

The Western Regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo said he had met with the MMDCEs, Heads of Decentralized Departments, officials of the GPRTU and other stakeholders in the region, on the intended campaign to get them actively involved.

The Regional Minister disclosed that to further whip -up public interest in the exercise, ‘Sanitation Day Bash’ would be organized today ahead of the exercise tomorrow.

He implored all Ghanaians to be part of the sanitation crusade which is aimed at reducing the menace of filth in the country.
