Photo Report: Mahama visits fire disaster site at Circle

President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, visited the Goil Filling Station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle that caught fire during the late hours of Wednesday, June 3, 2015.

About 150 people who sought shelter from the torrential rainfall resulting in floods overnight at the Goil filling station died as a result of the fire outbreak.

The cause of the fire outbreak is not yet known, but aside, claiming people’s lives, properties worth millions of cedis were destroyed.

A joint team of security personnel from the Fire Service, NADMO, and Military helped to stop the fire and save the lives of the people but unfortunately a large number of people lost their lives.

On his arrival, President Mahama assured Ghanaians that the Government will not have sympathy anymore, but drastic measures would be taken this time around to help stop flooding in Accra.

Meanwhile, President Mahama has declared three days of national mourning for the victims beginning Monday.

The Ghana national flag will fly at half-mast during the mourning period.
