Media urged to do more on sanitation

Captain Anthony Cudjoe Rtd, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, has called on the media to prioritise issues concerning hygiene and sanitation in the country.

He said constant education and conscientisation on the subject by the mass media had the potential to change people’s attitude and behaviour.

Captain Cudjoe was speaking at a media conference to brief journalists on the state of preparedness by the Assembly towards hosting the National Sanitation Day Exercise, on Saturday, June 6.

He said, “This is the time for us to renew our minds towards issues of the environment and hygiene”.

The Assembly, he said, had procured three “three bola taxis” to support the existing ones for the programme.

Mr John Gokermiah, Head of Waste Management at the Assembly, stated that no vehicle would be allowed to move on Saturday till after the exercise, advising, “Stay at your location and work “.

The Sekondi District Assembly, with its four sub-metros, has three backhoe, 11tipper trucks, scrap loaders, pickup vehicles, wheel barrows, rakes, shovels and gloves among other equipment and tools, for the National Sanitation Day exercise.

The day was instituted by President Mahama to ensure cleaner and healthy communities.
