Rawlings calls for a probe into Goil fire

Former President Jerry Rawlings has called for thorough investigations into the Goil filling station fire that has so far claimed more than 100 lives.

Fire gutted the filling station around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle following Wednesday’s torrential rains that flooded almost the entire of Accra.

More than 100 people including, infants have been confirmed dead in the tragedy.

The former military leader who visited the scene Thursday morning said the circumstances surrounding the incident must be probed to its logical conclusion.

“We must understand into details the fire safety measures that were put in place by the management of the station.

“ It’s a sad incident and we must seek to avoid such occurrences but we must know exactly what could have been done to avoid incidents like these,” he said.
