Mass burial for unclaimed bodies

DAILY GUIDE has gathered that the management of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital morgue in Sekondi will today do a mass burial for some corpses.

According to sources, the corpses to be buried are mostly those that have been in the hospital’s morgue for a long time without being claimed by any relatives.

DAILY GUIDE learnt that the bodies, numbering about 36, have been in the morgue for many years.

The situation has caused congestion in the morgue, denying the facility of the needed revenue.

Noah Ayisi, the supervisor of the morgue, confirmed the story to DAILY GUIDE in an interview.

He indicated that many of the bodies to be buried were unknown ones believed to be victims of motor accidents.

Mr Ayisi regretted that many a time when people die in motor accidents in the Central Region and are brought to the hospital morgue, relatives refuse to go for the bodies.

According to him, “Some of the bodies are getting rotten and creating nuisance at morgue because we don’t have enough of the medicine to take care of them.”
