106 Prison Officer Honoured For Long Service, Dedication

Mr. Fred Anka, Eastern Regional Commander of Prisons, has urged prison officers to put up high standard of work in the discharge of their duties. Mr. Anka who is also the Assistant Director of the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons, said prison officers could win the confidence of the public through manure handling of people put under their care. The Commander was speaking at a ceremony at Nsawam during which he decorated 106 officers for their long and dedicated service to the Ghana Prisons. They were also given 50,000 cedis each. The recipients including 12 superior and 94 subordinate officers are made up of 82 men and 24 women. Mr. anka said to be selected for the award, the officer must have been in the service for 16 years without a break and should have exemplary character. He expressed the hope that the award would spur on other officers to be dedicated and hard working to merit decoration. Among the 106 recipients was Senior Chief Officer Andrews Akowuah, who has seen 37 years of active service.
