Nana Oye Lithur, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection has indicated Ghana’s readiness to learn from Namibia, especially on its gender policy, which seeks to improve on the lot of its people.
Speaking during a courtesy call on her by Mr Charles Bernardt Josob, Namibian High Commissioner, at the wekend, Mrs Lithur said Ghana could corporate a lot with Namibia as far as gender protection is concerned at both regional and global levels, to ensure that the right of the citizens of the two countries are respected.
She expressed Ghana’ readiness to share its lessons and experiences in gender, social and children protection with Namibia.
“Namibia is as peaceful as Ghana and I believe we can both learn from each other on the role of women in ensuring peace,” she said.
She called for more attention on issue on gender equality among African countries as 2015 has been declared by the African Union as the Gender Equality year.
Mrs Lithur used the occasion to present a book on how to assess the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals in Ghana to Mr Josob.
Mr Josob said due to the importance the new government of Namibia attaches to poverty reduction in the country, it has set up a ministry purposefully to fight poverty.
He congratulated the ministry for its good works towards for the people of Ghana and urged her to continue with it.
He also used the occasion to present a book on tourism in Namibia to the minister.
