Police arrest two over alleged rape and robbery

Two young men are in trouble with the law, for allegedly attacking nine students with locally-made pistols, robbing them of their cash and valuables, and raping one in the process.

The victims are students of the Saint Dominic Senior High School, located at Wadie Adwumakaase in the Kwabre East District.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwaku Osei Ampofo Duku, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander gave their names as Kwadwo Dwanena, trader, and Osei Kwabena, driver, and said they live in communities around Wadie-Adwumakase.

Their accomplice, one Dominic Frimpong, accused of supplying the weapons to the suspects, is on police enquiry bail.

Briefing the press in Kumasi on Thursday, ACP Duku said the incident happened on May 21, at about 2230hours, when all of a sudden the suspects armed with locally-made pistols stormed the girls’ dormitory whilst they were asleep, and ordered them to surrender all they had on them.

They then forcibly took away mobile phones, unspecified amount of money, consumables (provisions), detergents, amidst threats and severe beatings.

Dwamena also did the unthinkable, when he grabbed one of the girls, dragged her to a heap of sand behind the dormitory, and had sex with her.

The Police, responding to a distress call sent by a Good Samaritan in the community, immediately arrived at the scene and arrested Dwamena wielding one of the loaded pistols.

During investigation, he mentioned Osei and Frimpong as his accomplices, and said Frimpong gave him the gun.

Osei was also arrested, and during a search in his room, five mobile phones, two tins of Ideal milk and assorted detergents (washing powder) were retrieved.

Police medical form issued for the victim to attend hospital was duly endorsed by medical experts confirming the rape.

Dwamena admitted the offence in his caution statement, but Osei has denied having committed the act.

They would soon be put before court.
