USAID Assists Assembly To Provide School Blocks

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has assisted the Nkoranza District Assembly to construct six-classroom blocks each for three schools in the district at a cost of over 760 million cedis.

The schools are Pinihe Roman Catholic Primary School, Bonsu Methodist Primary and Nkoranza Methodist Primary Schools. The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi commissioned the buildings at Pinihe at the weekend.

Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi said the project is part of the Governments programme, aimed at ensuring quality education in the country. He commended the communities for showing commitment and rendering active communal labour towards the successful completion of the projects.

Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi said that the Government appreciates the efforts of communities that self-initiate their own projects to win more support from the Government and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

Mr. Stephen Yaw Manu, the National Chief Executive Director of the Integrated Learning through Partnership (DIPP), USAID projects, said USAID has been able to construct 632 school blocks, renovated 247 dilapidated school buildings and also constructed nine libraries throughout the country.

Mr. Manu also said 81 teachers’ bungalows have been constructed in selected school communities to solve accommodation problems of teachers in the area.

The District Director of Education Mr. J.R. Agyeman-Badu urged the teachers to organize school children to plant trees, grass and flowers on school compounds to check soil erosion and rainstorms.

The Omanhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area Nana Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom presided over the function and was grateful to USAID for supporting the Government to provide quality education in the area.
