Driver arrested for attempted murder of pregnant woman

A 28 year old taxi driver, Kwabena Ashie has been arrested and placed in custody at Suhum for attempting to kill her seven months old pregnant girlfriend Abena Akofa Amenuvor at Aponoapono Number One, a farming community near Suhum.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the father of the girl, Emmanuel Amenuvor said, he and the daughter lived at Aponoapono Number One whilst the boyfriend of the daughter lived at Suhum and normally visits the daughter in the night.

He said, when the daughter became pregnant, the wife of the boyfriend heard about it and threatened divorce so the boy decided to kill the daughter to satisfy the wife.

He said on May 18, this year, whilst the daughter was asleep, around midnight , the accused visited her and after having sex with her, gave her some concoction to drink to abort the pregnancy.

He said the girl after taking the concoction started vomiting and the boy became offended and subjected her to severe beatings and she became unconscious.

Amenuvor said the accused dragged his pregnant daughter into an uncompleted manhole, dumped the body there and hit her several times with cement blocks while the girl was in the manhole, and assuming that the daughter was dead, he left for Suhum.

He said after gaining consciousness, the daughter raised an alarm and the youth of the village managed to arrest him later.

When the police at Suhum was contacted, they confirmed the story and said the accused was being prepared for court.

Meanwhile the girl had been admitted at the Rev. Bidi Memorial Hospital at Suhum.
