Arts exhibition opens in Accra

Professor Ato Delaquis, an Artist has said that the future of the Art industry in the country was not very bright, looking at the pattern the young generation were following in developing their Artistic skills.

He expressed concern about how young Artists these days pose nude pictures of themselves on the internet, which he said was worrying.

Prof Delaquis was speaking at the opening of a month-long Arts exhibition on his works, spanning from 1957 to 1977, in Accra.

The exhibition depicted how an Artist evolves and bringing to light the need to collect early works of artists and preserve them for posterity.

It was also to show that Artworks on paper are as powerful and vital as painting and sculpture and to give an idea about the high intellectual application that Artists go through in order to produce an Art work.

He said the exhibition was an eye opener, to enlighten the public on how Artist’s creativity reflects on society.

Dr Zagba Narh Oyortey, the Executive Director of the Ghana National Museums and Monument Board told the Ghana News Agency that, the Board has decided to give Artists the opportunity to exhibit their works to motivate the younger ones to develop the skills and talent in Arts.

He said the Museum of Science and Technology would be opened later this year, adding that, plans were far advanced to finish the external designs of the facility for public use.

Prof Delaquis provided the participants with a live painting of three different situations in the society.
