Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Timothy Yoosa Bonga, Greater-Accra Deputy Regional Police Commander, has urged policemen to respect civilians, since they were civilians before joining the service, and would become civilians after their retirement.
ACP Bonga made the call at the 2014 get-together of the Madina Divisional Police Command at Madina.
He commended police in the region for working hard to get rid of criminals.
ACP Bonga further commended them for exhibiting a high sense of professionalism during strike actions in the metropolis when involved all police personnel in the region.
He thanked the Police to ensure that last year’s Christmas and New Year holidays were incident-free.
The Deputy Regional Police Commander urged the police to be alert all times.
He commended the Madina Divisional Police Command for maintaining peace and order, and reminded them that they have a lot to do this year.
The Deputy Regional Police Commander assisted in cutting the sod to hand over a 12-garage space valued at 12,500 Ghana Cedis under construction by Mr Henry Sakyi Obiri, the CEO of Ages Construction Company..
ACP Bonga pleaded with other philanthropists to also come to the aid of the police, since the government could not single-handedly do everything for the police.
Chief Superintendent Nantogman Aggrey Yakubu, Madina Divisional Police Commander, said 2014 was a successful one, and added that it was through the co-operation from the Municipal Chief Executive of La-Nkwantanang-Madina Assemly, Mr. Franklin Anku, the chiefs and elders of Madina.
He also thanked the media for their support and co-operation.
He reminded the general public that crime could not be combated by the police alone, but through the efforts of both the general public and the police.
C/Supt Yakubu pleaded with the public to volunteer information on the hide-out of criminals, and assured them that the identities of informants would never be disclosed.
Mr Obiri, CEO of Ages Construction Company pledged 100 bags of cement for the construction of the on-going storey building project for the police behind the administration block.
The function was attended by the policemen and women from the Madina Divisional and Districts Command, the various ethnic chiefs within the jurisdiction,
The Ghana Police Brass Band from the Police Depot was in attendance.
