Assembly staff urged to work expeditiously

Mr Patrick Mensah, the Head of Administration of the Odorgonno Senior High School, has asked the staff of the district assemblies to work expeditiously.

He said the delay in getting permits and other documents from the assemblies sometimes compel people to do otherwise.

Mr Mensah made the request at a “Community Accountability Forum” at Sowutuom, in the Ga Central Municipality, organised by the Hope For Future Generations, a non-governmental organisation, which focuses on education and health.

It was also to sensitise community and assembly members on their roles and responsibilities on sanitation, particularly open defecation.

Mr Mensah called on the assembly members to intensify their education on clean environment to prevent diseases.

He said the assemblies should let the people have trust and confidence in them, and assure them that the taxes or the levies they collect are put to good use, to encourage them to continue paying.

He said bye-laws should be enforced and households compelled to build places of convenience and urged the assembly to provide public toilets to reduce open defecation in the area.

Mr Jacob Quaye, the Public Relation Officer of the Ga Central Municipal Assembly, advised community members to see the assembly’s revenue collectors as their friends and desist from insulting them.

He said monies collected were used to provide social amenities like public places of convenience, drains, collection of refuse and rehabilitation of roads.

Mr Quaye urged the people of the Ga Central Municipality to fully participate in the National Sanitation Day clean-up exercise.
